WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

This two day workshop will provide a refresher in foundational knowledge and skills relating to the occupational therapy assessment and management of clients experiencing physical impairments, namely related to orthopaedic and neurological conditions.

All sessions will be supported by the use of practical workstations, group case studies and multiple clinical videos to assist with attendees learning experience.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

 

  • Attendees will upgrade their knowledge and skills about the OT assessment and management process for common orthopaedic and neurological conditions, as supported by current evidence
  • Attendees will develop and consolidate knowledge and skills in the key OT areas of home assessment/modification and equipment prescription
  • Attendees will understand the administrative and communication skills required in the adult physical area (i.e. discharge planning / case conferencing / documentation)

 

This workshop is suitable for:

  • New Graduate
  • Beginner

The content of the workshop was developed for Occupational Therapists who are in the process of returning to the workforce or who are looking to move from another speciality area into the area of adult physical Occupational Therapy.

Additionally, the course will be suitable for new graduates who are embarking on the workforce in 2019/20 and looking to be better prepared for the commencement of their career. In particular, those graduates who did not have the opportunity to complete a hospital or adult physical placement or who simply wish to consolidate their knowledge and experience in this area.

PRESENTER

The Mater Private Hospital (MPH) Occupational Therapy team is a vital and experienced group of professionals working in the multidisciplinary MPH rehabilitation unit. The team provides clinical services for a wide range of diagnostic groups including orthopaedics, neurology and oncology. Special clinical qualifications and interests within the team include aged care, neurological rehabilitation, perceptual retraining, return to driving, chronic pain and lymphoedema management.
