Legal Services Offered
Maurice Blackburn provides the following legal services to OTA members:
Compensation law: Maurice Blackburn are experts in injury compensation law and can assist with workers’ compensation, road accident injuries, asbestos, and dust-related diseases.
Public liability: If you have been injured in a public place, such as a shopping centre, park, or footpath, Maurice Blackburn can assist with a public liability claim.
Employment law: Maurice Blackburn cannot provide advice for private practitioners due to the risk of OTA members being both employees and employers. They may assist practitioners working for public institutions, but there will be a fee for this service. They will connect you with relevant law firms or organisations for support.
Superannuation claims: If you cannot work due to medical reasons or illness has forced you to reduce your working hours, Maurice Blackburn can help you access TPD or income protection entitlements through your superannuation.
Insurance claims: If you need to make a claim on an insurance policy and your insurer isn’t playing fair, Maurice Blackburn can help submit or appeal your claim across a range of policies, including life insurance, travel insurance, home and contents insurance, and more.
Wills and estates planning: Maurice Blackburn can assist with all aspects of estate planning and administration, including creating a Will, managing a deceased estate, and providing legal advice for contested Wills.
*Employment contract reviews are charged at a rate.
Benefit to Members
Maurice Blackburn offers OTA full-time, part-time, and new graduate members free telephone advice and a free first consultation (excluding employment law), meaning it won’t cost you anything to understand your rights. If your query is beyond their expertise, they will refer you to their trusted network of local firms. Most claims are run on a no win, no fee basis and they can explain this to you when they speak with you.
Important: If you receive a client complaint, it is necessary to immediately advise your insurer, who will appoint a legal representative for you.
