Learn the CO-OP Approach (LCO1029)
Presented by Michelle Jackman and Laura Miller Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) is a therapeutic intervention approach for people who have difficulties performing motor based skills.
Program Overview
LEARN THE CO-OP APPROACH
Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO- OP) is a therapeutic intervention approach for children and adults who have difficulties performing everyday activities. CO-OP was developed in Canada and is now the world’s leading intervention approach for children with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). Evidence is emerging for cerebral palsy, adult stroke and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
This 3-day workshop, participants will:
- Understand the theories that underpin the CO-OP Approach
- Be able to apply the process of problem solving, dynamic performance analysis, guided discovery and strategy use in implementing the approach.
- Reflect and plan their implementation of the approach
Day 3 Consolidation
This day will be held 5 months post the 2-day workshop, this day will be held online.
Participants will present and discuss their implementation of the approach and instructors will provide feedback to assist with learning and development.
CERTIFICATION
On completion of this course you will be given a certificate for CPD hours only from OTA. If you want to be certified as a CO-OP Therapist you will need to approach ICANCOOP .
Certification is available to health care professionals who have attended a CO-OP ApproachTM workshop (3 days – basic workshop plus consolidation day) - either online or in person - offered by an instructor approved by the ICAN (formerly CO-OP Academy). An individual can be certified as a CO-OP therapist by demonstrating competency in CO-OP’s essential elements though the ICAN's online CO-OP Certification Course.
To receive certification a therapist must demonstrate competence in the application of the five essential elements of CO-OP, most especially, use of strategies, guided discovery and dynamic performance analysis, and enabling principles. Once the competencies have been demonstrated to the satisfaction of the certifying instructor, the therapist is issued a certificate by ICAN and a certification number. The name of all therapists having received certification in the previous five years appear on the ICAN website. All other names will be kept in the website archive.
