Program Overview

About

Develop your neurological practice skills by joining this immersive six-part webinar series designed specifically for early career occupational therapists. Whether you're fresh out of uni, starting a new role in neuro rehab, or looking to build confidence in this complex area of practice, this series will help you develop essential clinical skills and practical strategies you can apply straight away. Delivered over six months, each 90-minute webinar offers a deep dive into key areas of neurological assessment, reasoning, and intervention—building your knowledge step-by-step without feeling overwhelming.

From making sense of assessment findings to supporting upper limb recovery, addressing cognitive challenges, and managing visual and perceptual issues, this series combines expert guidance with evidence-based approaches and practical tips you can use in real clinical situations. You’ll gain a stronger foundation in neuro practice, increase your confidence with complex presentations, and learn how to problem-solve common challenges in a supportive and accessible way.

The webinar topics are as follows:

Webinar 1: Neurological Assessment

Webinar 2: Clinical Reasoning and development of treatment plans

Webinar 3: Evidence Based Upper Limb Interventions

Webinar 4: Cognitive Rehabilitation

Webinar 5: Vision, visuospatial and visual perception re-training

Webinar 6: Implementing your plan and problem-solving challenging situations

The key learning objectives of this 6-part webinar series are:

  1. Learn and apply clinical assessment skills and tools to evaluate motor, sensory, cognitive, visual and perceptual difficulties with individuals with a range of neurological conditions including stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis and functional neurological disorder.
  1. Develop individualised treatment plans including duration, repetitions and intensity based on assessment findings, client goals, neuroplasticity principles and incorporating evidence based neurological rehabilitation.
  1. Build clinical reasoning skills in justifying and providing rationale for using remediation-based approaches linked with goals and meaningful occupations with individuals with neurological conditions.
  1. Understand and apply evidence-based practice to upper limb rehabilitation including sensory retraining and interventions for development of motor function including mirror box, mental imagery, functional electrical stimulation, constraint induced movement therapy and task specific practice.
  1. Learn key strategies and approaches to address common cognitive difficulties including attention, memory, information processing, executive functioning and reduced insight and awareness.
  1. Develop understanding of methods and approaches for managing visual field deficits, visual attention challenges (inattention and neglect) and visual perceptual difficulties.
  1. Learn practical “ready to use” skills and approaches that can be implemented with clients including hints, tips and “tricks of the trade” to build confidence in working in neurological rehabilitation and be supported to problem solve intervention plans.
