OVERVIEW
This Interest Group (IG) is open to all OTA members working in or with an interest in occupational therapy in schools. The aims of the group include:
- To network with other OTs across Australia who provide occupational therapy services in school settings
- To identify key issues that OTs face and to problem solve solutions
- To review evidence based practice in relation to occupational therapy in schools
- To share information and resources
MEETING DETAILS
TOPIC:
An Occupational Therapist’s experience setting up a Sensory Room in school supporting students with experience of childhood trauma.
Dr Nadine Milgate recently presented a poster at the International Childhood Trauma Conference and will talk about her experience setting up a sensory room in a school for specific purposes. Nadine will provide feedback from the conference and share related resources. There will also be an opportunity for discussion about how to support educators to successfully implement sensory resources in the classroom environment.

Dr Milgate is an occupational therapist with 28 years’ experience. She works in her private practice in a rural area of NSW. Dr Milgate has worked as a school-based occupational therapy consultant for 10 years. Currently, Dr Milgate works across 3 different school settings, 2 Schools for specific purposes and a public primary school. She is passionate about collaborative and holistic perspectives in education.
