OVERVIEW

The Trauma Informed Care IG aims to connect and support OT's across Australia interested in developing and advancing their understanding and practice of trauma informed care principles and approaches

Objectives:

  • To bring together occupational therapists nationwide, across all settings, practice areas and stages of practice, for knowledge sharing and CPD development, peer support, and exploration of Trauma informed care practices and principles
  • Provide opportunities for evidence based training and practice resources that are consistent with occupational therapy competency standards, including hearing from guest speakers in this area of practice
  • To provide a trauma informed space honouring lived experience from within our profession, upholding cultural sensitivity, and supporting the wellbeing of OT's, their workforces and organisations, whilst advocating for the occupational therapy role in trauma informed care

MEETING DETAILS

TOPIC:

Discussion and sharing of how OT's can use Trauma Informed Language in Documentation.

Last year's topic of Trauma Informed language sparked interest and discussion surrounding the barriers and facilitators to embedding Trauma Informed language into documentation for many OT's. Many of the OT's described: an incongruence between OT's providing trauma informed practices with requirements for documentation that were not trauma informed; opportunities for embedding trauma informed language and language of inclusion into documented intake, referral, assessment and report writing; barriers and facilitators of funded documentation sources, and organisational documentation. Our session in May is an opportunity for OT's to come together with their  documentation examples, templates, and ideas, so that we can collectively begin to transform OT documentation to reflect Trauma Informed care principles and practices.
