Primary Health
We advocate for the crucial role that OTs play in an effective primary health system that embraces the spectrum of the allied health workforce. Join OTA to inform and support our advocacy work.

Member Priorities
- Properly resourced and funded preventive care delivered by OTs as part of multi-disciplinary teams.
- An understanding of the crucial role of OTs in primary health care among general practitioners and other health professionals.
- Equity of access to health care services for all Australians, regardless of an individual’s geographic location.
- The development of a sustainable allied primary health workforce.

Our Advocacy
We work with stakeholders including other allied health peak bodies and AHPA (Allied Health Professions Association) to advance the role of allied health within the primary health sector.
We also engage with Primary Health Networks, the Department of Health and Aged Care, and the Chief Allied Health Officer.
We make submissions on key inquiries and consultation including:
- The Senate Committee Inquiry into the Provision of general practitioner and related primary health services to outer metropolitan, rural, and regional Australians.
- The Federal Department of Health’s 10 Year Primary Health Care Plan.
- The Scope of Practice Review, led by Professor Mark Cormack, which was focussed on unlocking the potential of the Australian health workforce.
- The National Allied Health Workforce Strategy
In 2025 OTA will be engaging in the review of Medicare Chronic Disease Management Allied Health Items
