Why this course?
The Professional Supervision Program will set you up to confidently undertake best practise supervision.
Developed in direct response to member feedback, this program has its roots in OTA’s Professional Supervision Framework, published in 2019.
Upon completion, you’ll be recognised as a skilled professional supervisor, a transferable skill across settings and regions. Health organisations and employers will easily recognise your established knowledge and capabilities for the delivery of professional supervision.

What you'll learn
Through active engagement in this program, you will be able to:
- Deliver quality supervision aligned to established standards and evidence-based frameworks
- Adopt a range of techniques to provide inclusive supervision
- Engage in critical reflection to enhance your supervision practice
- Use supervision to support risk management and risk enablement
- Review the effectiveness of supervision within your team.

How it works
This program is delivered through a self-led, practical eLearning platform. We recommend completing this program in 12 weeks, however you will have 6 months access to the program content.
You will receive a practice-integrated activity workbook which will guide you through each module containing multiple interactive activities, encouraging the immediate integration of your learning into your work.

Who is it for?

- Actively supervise two Occupational Therapists and plan to deliver supervision sessions within the duration of the program.
- Have access to a peer Occupational Therapist, to review and provide feedback on work completed as part of the program.
- Have good working knowledge of the Professional Supervision Framework (2019) and feel confident navigating key professional resources, including but not limited to:
- Australian Occupational Therapy Professional Code of Conduct (2020)
- Australian Occupational Therapy Competency Standards (2018)
- National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (2017)
Module Overview
The OTA Supervision Program consists of 6 modules, each with a set of learning objectives. Each module should take approximately 3 hours to complete, with an additional 2 hours of work per module required for workplace learning and assessment activities.

Foundations of professional supervision
- Distinguish clinical supervision from other forms of supervision, such as mentoring
- Develop your current supervision knowledge and skills
- Discover your supervision style
Critical reflection and learning in professional supervision
- Develop critical reflection within one- to-one, group and peer supervision settings
- Formulate an action plan to enhance reflective practice that warrants particular attention within your context
Quality features in professional supervision
- Explore what quality supervision means to you
- Discover the relational aspects of clinical supervision
- Workshop your learnings with those you supervise, as well as yourself as a supervisee
Creative methods for supervision across contexts and settings
- Discover how to engage and support supervisees while also being efficient
- Deep dive into the Four Pillars of Practice l Explore the concept of inclusive
- supervision with practical resources, frameworks and templates
Supervision, risk management and risk enablement
Explore ways to manage, enable and embrace risk across the three domains of supervision:
- normative
- restorative
- formative
Building the case for supervision
- Reflect on your future self as a supervisor or supervisee
- Outline how you will apply the knowledge gained from this program and build a supervisory team
- Explore the ways you'll evaulate and measure the impact of supervision
