SESSION OVERVIEW
Highly developed leadership skills form the foundation of a well-functioning organisation and a satisfying professional career. Leaders require exceptional skills to lead themselves, and their teams through the overwhelming challenges and unprecedented demands they face.
Many leaders are promoted into leadership roles due to their clinical expertise and may lack awareness about evidence-based leadership principles and research-based leadership frameworks. This can lead them to feel rudderless in navigating the complexity of leadership roles.
Contemporary people leadership research emphasises the value of emotional intelligence, psychological safety, a strengths-focus, and applying principles from neuroscience and interpersonal neurobiology. These evidence-based approaches are invaluable in achieving what we want - a high performing, productive workforce who are engaged and energised.
This 2-day workshop led by highly acclaimed occupational therapist, Michelle Bihary will empower you as a leader.
By attending this course you will cover 5 key areas of leadership whilst learning and reflecting with your peers:
1. Leadership and Management & Leadership Key Competencies Framework
- Examine the key principles of effective leadership and management
- Present contemporary frameworks and useful models of leadership
- Explore the challenges of stepping into authority and utilising personal agency
- Build on a comprehensive leadership competency framework, assisting participants to identify their own leadership strengths, the competencies required in their current roles and opportunities for further development
2. Self-Leadership and Leader Resilience
- Explores skills vital to high performance, self-leadership and resilience in leaders and their staff
- Addresses frameworks and strategies for building resilience and burnout prevention
- Identify signature strengths and their application to workplace roles and performance
3. Psychological Safety
- Explore the research base of psychological safety, and why it is critical for quality healthcare, professional learning, high performance, and teamwork
- Address the steps and strategies health leaders can take to build psychological safety within their teams and services
4. Build Emotional Intelligence
- Presents an internationally recognised model of Emotional Intelligence, which will be immediately practical and useful to participants for self-management and staff management
- Understand ways to build an emotionally intelligent workforce
5. Bring out the best in others – Building development focused relationships
- Understand the key skills in bringing out the best in each staff member, building authentic relationships that enable and support developmental conversations and build performance
- Examine the 8 crucial conversations for leaders that can be used for managing staff and managing performance, managing up and managing relationships with peers and managers
- Explore strategies for giving empowering and useful feedback

PRESENTER
Michelle Bihary
Michelle Bihary is a mental health Occupational Therapist with over 35 years’ experience working and leading within public mental health and her own mental health clinical service. She understands the complexity of leadership and building a thriving and psychologically safe workplace, within the disrupted context of healthcare. 
Bringing an occupational lens, Michelle applies research based on contemporary leadership principles, emotional intelligence, people leadership, workplace culture, employee engagement, neuroscience, workplace, and leader resilience. She is highly passionate about ensuring leaders optimise their potential and perform at their peak.
Michelle is a master at sharing theoretically informed, but practical frameworks and strategies. She shares the wisdom of many years in leadership roles and the practical knowledge of understanding how to build workforce capacity and skill development.
Michelle’s ability to engage with people and create psychological safety within a learning environment is what enables deep and rich learning. Over the past 20 years, she has been privileged to deliver training and facilitate powerful change in many workplaces with over 50,000 professionals.
Michelle is also author of Leading Above the Line: Applying neuroscience to build psychologically safe and thriving teams.

CPD HOURS
A certificate of attendance will be issued on the completion of the course for 12 hours.
Please note: Your certificate will be available in your CPD Tracker within 48 hours after course completion.
