OVERVIEW

This is a group to: 

  • Discuss professional standards and guidelines for practice relevant to the field.
  • Develop resources that will assist new therapists moving into the field of medicolegal work and
  • Provide evidence based training for expert therapists providing medicolegal reports that are consistent with the occupational therapy philosophy and ethics as well as the Expert Witness Code of Conduct relevant for each state.

TOPIC:
Dust and Disease Matters 

Guest Speaker:
Professor Burdon and Tanya Segelov

Content:

  • Prof Burdon will share with us his knowledge of dust and diseases in Australia, including diagnoses, prognoses, treatment and presenting conditions (including mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis, silicosis and occupational asthma)
  • Tanya Segelov will present on Dust and Disease legal frameworks, definitions under the civil liability acts and will reflect on Case Law. 
  • Opportunity for discussion as a group on how to estimate care for cases with unknown prognosis / declining palliative conditions, in context of the legal framework.
