TALKING TOILETING Series 1
Are OTs Engaged or Vacant in Addressing this Essential Occupation in Children?

SESSION OVERVIEW

Learning to use the toilet is an important developmental step for children, which enables their engagement and independent participation in a wide variety of home, community and education based occupations.

Occupational therapists are increasingly receiving requests to provide support with the management of developmental and health related issues associated with toileting for children and young people.

The 2 x Talking Toileting Series 1 webinars will present foundation knowledge for occupational therapists to plan and implement an intervention approach that can include individual programs for families, and inclusion within other education and care settings.

This series of webinars with additional resources are intended to provide occupational therapists with a broad clinical framework and practical strategies in order to support the child’s occupational participation from a health, developmental and functional perspective.

TALKING TOILETING Series 1: Updated December 2023

Series 1 Session 1: Understanding Paediatric Bladder & Bowel Health

This first session will focus on healthy physiology and common functional disorders of bowel and bladder in children. A team approach will be described using a puzzle model reflecting the wide range of bio-psychosocial factors to be considered.

Series 1 Session 2: OT Role & Framework

This second session introduces a systematic framework for occupational therapy following, assessment, preparation, implementation methods and monitoring progress over time. Case study examples are used to further describe this framework
