Practice Spotlight - Getting started with generative AI: A beginner’s guide for OTs


Have you heard your colleagues, friends and family talk about artificial intelligence, AI, ChatGPT or generative AI and wondered how can I use this to support what I do as an OT but don't know where to start? 

Join experienced occupational therapists Will Crowe and Jess Francis as they share with you the many ways generative AI can be used to enhance your practice both from an administrative and clinical perspective. 

In this interactive workshop, you will be stepped through the process of getting started with generative AI including registering an account, inputting and refining your prompts / questions and objectively reviewing the outputs.  

Key areas that will be covered in this session include: 

  • Getting started with generative AI 
  • Use of generative AI to support tasks such as reporting writing, case notes and client handouts 
  • Examples of how generative AI can be used to support clinical interventions with clients
  • Top tips and key considerations when using generative AI including ethical use, privacy and security 

Free generative AI programs will be utilised during this session  - ChatGPT, Calude, Copilot and Gemini
 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

This session will: 

  • Assist you to get started in using generative AI in your practice 

  • Increase your understanding of the various ways generative AI can be used to support administrative and clinical tasks that occupational therapists undertake 
  • Support you to use generative AI effectively, safely and ethically in your practice 

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

OTs at any stage of their career who are new to generative AI and unsure of how to get started

The session will run for approximately 90 minutes.

RECORDING ACCESS

This session WILL NOT BE RECORDED as it is an interactive workshop.  

 

COURSE MATERIAL ACCESS:  
Participants will be able to access the course materials online in their OTA account for the event and for a further 12 weeks after the event. 

All registrants will be provided with access to an online account via an email sent upon registration. 

 

CPD HOURS:
A certificate of attendance will be issued on the completion of the course for 1.5 hours. 

Please allow 48 hours for your CPD certificate of attendance to be loaded into your CPD Tracker after course completion

Presenter

Jess has over 12 years occupational therapy experience across a range of private sectors as a clinician and in senior leadership roles and recently completed postgraduate research exploring the use of virtual reality. Jess has been a member of the NSW Divisional Council for over 6 years.

Will Crowe

Presenter

With a significant interest in the intersection between technology and activity participation, Will is an OT whose dominant area of practice involves the prescription of assistive and inclusive technological equipment to assist his clients attain their goals. His area of professional passion lies in facilitating accessible video game engagement with clients living with a range of physical and cognitive disabilities. Will has worked largely in private practice and for not-for-profit organisations as well as lecturing part-time at Flinders University and is an OTA Divisional Council member for SA. Will believes that the rapidly growing potential applications for AI are something to be embraced, with appropriate considerations. It is technology that has the potential to revolutionise not just occupational therapy practice but also the way in which people participate in their everyday lives.
