OVERVIEW

This Interest Group (IG) is open to all OTA members working in or with an interest in the area of mental health. The aims of the group include:

•            To provide opportunities for networking, professional development and education.

•            To educate, provide support, and create a safe space to discuss clinical practice (research and evidence-based practice, innovative OT practice, lived experience).

The concepts of personality disorder and complex trauma via an OT lens:  

Why telling survivors of abuse that their personality is disordered is exactly as helpful as it sounds.

Clinical Lead Beam Consultancy

Keir works with people who recurrently self harm and feel suicidal with a specific focus on avoiding long term stay in hospitals that self appoint themselves "specialist". He serves on the executive committee of the British and Irish group for the study of personality disorder and is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists Expert Reference Group for Personality Disorder. He has worked as an Occupational Therapist for over 20 years and delivered the bi-centennial Elizabeth Casson memorial lecture which is described as the highest honour that can be awarded to an OT in the UK. Keir has authored a number of articles and book chapters around personality disorder, self harm and suicidality. He has been quoted as an expert in multiple media outlets including the BBC, Sky News, the Guardian and as its you, the Sydney Morning Herald.
