LGBTQIA+ Panel Recording - Mental Health Forum 2024
A recording of the LGBTQIA+ Lived Experience Panel at the OTA Mental Health Forum 2024. Available to OTA members only.
Program Overview
We’re pleased to share the recording of a powerful and thought provoking panel discussion from OTA's Mental Health Forum 2024, exploring the unique mental health challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ communities. This recording is available to OTA members only.
Facilitated by Samantha Hunter, CEO of Occupational Therapy Australia, this interactive session brings together a diverse panel of lived experience advocates from across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. Together, they share insights into the occupational impacts of discrimination, social isolation, and minority stress—and how occupational therapists can provide more affirming, inclusive care.
With LGBTQIA+ youth in Australia up to five times more likely to attempt suicide than their non-LGBTQIA+ peers, this conversation is both timely and vital. Panellists explore the therapist’s role in creating safe spaces for identity exploration, meaningful participation, and healing.
This session is a must-watch for all occupational therapists committed to equity, inclusion, and client-centred practice.
