Module 2: Working with Older People – Assessment, goal setting and outcome measures
Build your expertise in comprehensive assessment, robust needs planning, precise goal setting, and impactful outcome measurement when working with older people.
Program Overview
Practice Essentials: Working with Older People – Module 2 delivers essential knowledge and skills related to assessment, planning of needs, goal setting, and outcome measures to best address the broad and changing needs of older people.
This comprehensive module provides the essential knowledge base needed to excel and truly make a difference in your work with older people. It is specifically crafted to lay the groundwork for occupational therapists embarking on their careers in this area, or for experienced OTs seeking to upskill, transition into this dynamic practice area or are returning to practice after a break. It prepares you to deliver services that are secure, principled, and culturally sensitive across various practice environments.
The module equips practitioners with the essential skills to undertake comprehensive assessments with focussed lessons supporting learners to gain confidence in utilising a variety of assessment tools, both formal and informal, to gather vital information. The comprehensive approaches covered form the basis for developing sound clinical understandings, determining relevant needs, and meticulously planning support strategies and therapeutic interventions.
Learners will develop the ability to critically evaluate the suitability of different assessment tools, fostering their capacity to adapt their assessment approach to suit diverse settings and circumstances. Through case studies and interactive opportunities learners will gain the necessary skills to identify and respond effectively to changing presentations across a range of contexts and the ability to use assessments tools to support outcome measures when evaluating clinical approaches and tracking client goals
Through the lessons in this module, the curriculum strongly emphasises a strong focus on delivering client-centred approaches whether that be during assessments, goals setting or outcome measurement, whilst ensuring the views of carers, advocates, and the wider care team are appropriately integrated.
