OVERVIEW
The pressure management interest group is convened to facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional development among Australian Occupational Therapists.
The primary objectives are:
- Nurture a community of connected occupational therapists whose practice encompasses positioning and pressure management of people in any setting: build relationships and provide a sense of belonging; nurture novice therapists; share ideas and expertise
- Grow the capacity of Australian Occupational Therapists in seating, positioning and pressure care: promote and discuss best practice; share knowledge, advance Occupational Therapy knowledge and research about supporting the occupations and wellbeing of people who are at risk.
- Advocate for the role of Occupational Therapy in promoting the health and wellbeing of people with seating, positioning and pressure care needs, within Australian research, health, aged care and disability environments.

Dr Katherine Rae
Presenter (Occupational Therapist)
Dr Katherine Rae is an Occupational Therapist and Lecturer in Occupational Therapy with a particular interest in pressure injury prevention and management. Drawing on experience in both clinical and academic settings, she is passionate about promoting evidence-based, occupation-centred approaches that support health, wellbeing, and participation. Katherine completed her PhD investigating the comparative effectiveness of pressure mattresses for older adults living in the community, reflecting her commitment to advancing evidence for pressure injury prevention. She is dedicated to building clinician confidence through education, knowledge translation, and practical application of research findings. Katherine's work focuses on bridging research and practice to improve outcomes for people at risk of pressure injuries and highlighting the unique contribution of occupational therapy in prevention, assessment, intervention, and long-term management.
