OVERVIEW
The Paediatric interest group is convened to facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional development among Australian Occupational Therapists.
The primary objectives are:
- Share ideas, discuss current evidence and learn collaboratively
- Provide opportunities for networking
- Encourage best practice and innovation
- Provide feedback to OTA on matters relating to Paediatrics practice

Prof Karen Stagnitti
Presenter
Karen Stagnitti is Emeritus Professor in the School of Health and Social Development at Deakin University, Victoria, Australia. Her area of research is children’s play. For over more than 44 years she has mainly worked in early childhood intervention programs in community-based settings as part of a specialist paediatric multidisciplinary team as well as in teaching and research at universities. Karen has authored or co-authored 8 books on play and 4 pretend play assessments. She also has over 120 national and international papers published as well as 36 book chapters. Her norm referenced standardised play assessment, the Child-Initiated Pretend Play Assessment 2 was the result of her Phd.

Julia Pearce
Presenter (Occupational Therapist)
Julia Pearce ( née Mason) is a paediatric occupational therapist living in Auckland, Aotearoa (New Zealand). In 2018 she completed 3 research studies (literature based, quantitative and qualitative) on the practice of occupational therapists with children who experienced complex trauma. Julia graduated from Auckland University of Technology in 2009, and then with a Masters from Deakin University in 2018. Julia has worked in a range of settings across Aotearoa and Australia, including in CASEA, special education, injury rehabilitation, and private practice. For the past 3 years Julia has been a full-time stay-at-home parent for her two young children.
