This popular 2-day training program provides participants with a solid theoretical basis and a rich set of practical frameworks to guide supervision practice. The training emphasises ways to build an engaging supervisory relationship, informed by values, self-awareness, emotional intelligence ensuring the development of a psychologically safe environment, where learning can flourish.
The workshop blends theory with practical experience, is highly interactive and relevant to anyone providing professional and clinical supervision, from workplace supervisor to external supervisor. This workshop has evolved over a number of years and has been delivered throughout Australia and New Zealand. 

The two day training program includes a detailed workbook, further resources, links and recommended videos as well as access to sign-up for a 12 month email embedding program (The 12 month embedding program is a series of 25 emails delivered fortnightly, that each include one key learning principle from the workshop.

WHAT IS SUPERVISION?

  • What is best practice supervision and what is not supervision
  • Exploring the key principles, functions and aims of supervision
  • Build a supervision framework aligned with best practice 

LEARNING GOALS IN SUPERVISION

  • Developing a supervisory agenda, not just a list of problems
  • Understand the 4 areas of learning goals - clinical, professional, personal and organisational
  • Build three types of learning goals - reactive, reflective, and proactive

LEARNING APPROACH IN SUPERVISION

  • Application of learning styles, learning stages & developmental stages to enhance responsiveness to the supervisee’s learning needs
  • Level up reflective practice and reflective learning

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP

  • Build a psychologically safe and values aligned supervisory relationship
  • Empower supervisees to be self-directed learners and drive their own supervision
  • Feedback and tricky conversations in supervision

PRACTICALITIES OF SUPERVISION

  • Explore skills in contracting & reviewing supervision to set a strong foundation

  • Delineating supervision from line management, performance management, EAP and other workplace relationships

PRESENTER

        Michelle Bihary

Michelle Bihary is a mental health Occupational Therapist with over 35 years’ experience working, supervising and leading within public mental health and her own mental health practice. Renowned for her Professional and Clinical Supervision training, she draws on theoretically and research-informed principles to ensure that supervision is aligned with best practice.

Michelle understands the complexity of providing supervision and professional learning within the demands of the healthcare system.  Over the past 30 years she has held a supervision practice and supervised a broad range of health professionals from new graduates to CEOs, from all over Australia.

Alongside her training programs, Michelle has developed a range of free resources for health professionals, including a whitepaper on Transformative Supervision and a quiz on best practice Supervision. She is also author of Leading Above the Line: Applying neuroscience to build psychologically safe and thriving teams.

WORKSHOP DETAILS

Registrants are advised to print out the comprehensive Professional and Clinical Supervision workbook prior to the start of the course for ease of notetaking and for future reference.
