OVERVIEW

The National Occupational Therapy Driver Assessor (OTDA) Interest Group aims to strengthen and advance occupational therapy driving assessment practice across Australia by providing a regular forum for collaboration, knowledge exchange and professional leadership. The group will:

- foster a nationally connected OTDA community, bringing together clinicians from all states and territories to share knowledge, experience and emerging practice.

- Provide a forum to discuss national issues affecting occupational therapy driving assessment and rehabilitation, including emerging evidence, policy, competency standards, professional practice and advocacy.

- Facilitate continuing professional development through topic-based meetings, case discussions, invited speakers and sharing of innovations from across Australia.

- Promote consistency of clinical practice by encouraging discussion around evidence-informed approaches, professional standards and contemporary service delivery models.

- Support collaboration between experienced clinicians to identify emerging issues, develop resources and inform Occupational Therapy Australia's advocacy and professional practice initiatives.

- Strengthen communication between Occupational Therapy Australia, future reference groups and clinicians working in driver assessment and rehabilitation.

- Encourage networking, mentoring and peer support amongst occupational therapy driver assessors nationally.

- Provide opportunities for members to showcase innovative programs, research, service developments and quality improvement initiatives occurring across Australia.

Scope

The National Interest Group will focus on issues that have national relevance.

State and Territory Driving Interest Groups will continue to meet separately to discuss:

- local driver licensing legislation and medical standards

- jurisdiction-specific licensing processes and Transport Authority updates

- local stakeholder relationships (e.g. licensing authorities, rehabilitation providers, driving schools and vehicle modifiers)regional service delivery issues and networking opportunities

- state-based advocacy priorities.

This structure ensures that clinicians benefit from both a national professional network and strong local forums addressing the practical realities of practice within each jurisdiction.
