
The OT’s guide to Navigating the NDIS
This two-day workshop will equip occupational therapists with the foundation knowledge and clinical confidence required to deliver effective, scheme aligned services within the NDIS. It is ideal for new and experienced OTs alike – this workshop blends policy understanding and real world application.
Program Overview
This practical two-day workshop is designed to strengthen your confidence and capability as an Occupational Therapist working within the NDIS. With ongoing reforms, evolving guidelines, and increasing expectations for high-quality clinical justification, this workshop provides the clarity, frameworks, and practical skills you need to deliver impactful, participant-centred services. You will leave the workshop with a deeper understanding of how to navigate the scheme efficiently and sustainably in your day-to-day practice.
Day One will provide a structured introduction to the NDIS:
NDIS 101 - The Basics
- Understand NDIS foundations: purpose, principles, stakeholders, eligibility and functional domains
- Navigate plans, funding types and management options to see what’s likely approved
- Use the reasonable and necessary framework to justify OT recommendations
Navigating the New NDIS Rules & Operational Guidelines
- Understand key legislative reforms and their impact on service delivery
- Navigate the Act, Rules and Guidelines to identify NDIS, non-NDIS and replacement supports
- Apply guidelines and NDIS resources to strengthen clinical reasoning and report quality
Billable Time and the NDIS
- Understand the fee-for-service model, pricing arrangements and claiming rules
- Differentiate billable and non-billable activities and improve documentation accuracy
- Streamline workflows and reflect on practices to maintain efficiency and sustainability
Assistive Technology in the NDIS
- Understand the purpose, definition and classification of AT within the NDIS
- Navigate funding pathways, cost levels, risk and documentation requirements for AT
- Apply guidelines and resources to justify recommendations, linking supports to goals and NDIS criteria
Day Two will focus on assessment, reporting and evidencing supports for funding decisions:
OT Functional Assessments
- Understand the purpose, structure and triggers for a Functional Capacity Assessment
- Assess and document functional impact using multi-source evidence to guide recommendations
- Structure reports to clearly justify reasonable and necessary supports
NDIS Report Writing
- Understand the purpose, structure and role of NDIS reports in funding decisions
- Communicate assessment findings clearly and link evidence to defensible recommendations
- Align reports with scope of practice while demonstrating functional benefit and accountability
Home and Living Supports: SIL, ILO and SDA
- Understand purpose, structure, eligibility and assessment requirements for SIL, ILO and SDA
- Differentiate support types, compare models and justify the most appropriate option
- Apply guidance to produce evidence-based recommendations that balance independence, safety and sustainability
Learning Recap and Discussion
- Review report templates provided alongside an 50+ page interactive activity workbook
- Revisit key content covered throughout the workshop
- Reflect on learning and discuss insights with Sarah
Who can enrol
This session is suitable for OTs at any career stage who work with NDIS participants.

A certificate of attendance will be issued upon completion of the full course. Please allow up to 48 hours for the certificate to appear in your CPD tracker.
