OTA launches ‘OTs for Veterans’ advocacy website
On the eve of ANZAC Day, OTA is drawing attention to the fact that OTs can no longer maintain longstanding clinical relationships with veterans and war widows.
Asking the question "Is this the way a grateful nation treats the people who treat its veterans?", we have developed a website detailing the wilful failure of successive Australian governments to pay a living wage to those occupational therapists supporting veterans who bear the physical and mental scars of service. Visit the OTs for Veterans website for more information.
Experienced occupational therapists still doing veterans work do so at a loss; they only keep doing it out of loyalty to longstanding clients and by cross subsidies from other work. The website includes facts and case studies, and invites anybody concerned about the care delivered to veterans and war widows to write to both the Minister and Shadow Minister for Veterans' Affairs.
We have informed politicians and the media that OTA will wage this campaign until the government acts to relieve the unsustainable financial pressure on occupational therapists, enabling them to deliver the high quality of care that veterans deserve.
Concerned members wanting to take action are encouraged to:
- Share the page across social media to raise awareness
- Use the website to send an email to MPs to advocate for fair compensation
- Download the OTs for Veterans email signature block and social media tiles below
Together, we will advocate for positive change.
