NDIS Announcement: The National Disability Insurance Agency has announced new work to design and develop NDIS assessment tools

Published: Thursday 6 February 2025

Yesterday, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) announced that it has commenced work to design and test ‘a new way of gathering information about the support people with disability need and to set their NDIS budgets.’

As part of this work, the NDIA has released several opportunities to the sector:

An approach to market that invites organisations to tender to develop a support need assessment tool for adults (16 and over). The NDIA has explicitly stated that the tool that will be developed must primarily assess disability support needs rather than function, impairment or quality of life.

A request for information about off-the-shelf needs assessments tools which assess targeted disability support needs in relation to:

  • Assistive technology
  • Vehicle modifications
  • Home modifications
  • Disability-related health supports
  • High level attendant support

A request for information about off-the-shelf needs assessment tools for children which can understand the child across multiple naturalistic environments, is strengths-based, culturally safe, and trauma informed, and assesses:

  • Level of support needed, based on direct assessment or assessment of functioning or development
  • Level of functional ability or development, including identification of developmental delay in children under 6
  • Live activity and developmental areas where a child may need support or experience a reduction in functional capacity.

More information about the opportunities are available from the NDIS website and AusTender (requires you to create a login) can be found here
