New Indigenous Allied Health Australia Academy to open in ACT

Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA) are opening an Indigenous Allied Health Academy in the ACT in the second half of 2021. Occupational Therapy Australia are a corporate member of IAHA and pleased to be associated with this organisation.

The IAHA National Academy promotes Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander school students to consider a career in health. The model supports students through a school-based traineeship model to gain education and practical experience to achieve a relevant health industry qualification such as a Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance, providing a career pathway for participants.   The model aims to increase Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student engagement, retention and successful completion of Year 12.

IAHA are seeking interest from suitable placement hosts across public and private sectors in ACT who may be able to provide placements for allied health assistant students. Cultural safety training will be provided and students will be well supported by IAHA whilst on placement.

More information about the program is available here or by contacting Jacinta Williams at jacinta@iaha.com.au
