Dr Susan Lukersmith

Dr Lukersmith was the project manager, research, guideline methodologist and developer. The guidance acknowledges that people with an amputation have complex needs that impact on all areas of the person’s life. Their prosthetics are expensive as they are customised to the individual. The guideline has been developed to provide information about best practice, resources, and recommendations, in an easy-to-use format that covers issues including ageing with an amputation, body weight and fitness, stump management, prosthesis maintenance, psychosocial and mental health, sexuality, pain management and co-occurring health conditions. It is designed for everyone involved in the pathway following an amputation including people with an amputation, health professionals, service providers, and funders.

Following her presentation there will be an opportunity for you to discuss various aspects of the document and how this influences your clinical reasoning.

Guidance on the support pathway for people needing prosthetic limbs

NB: You will need to download a copy of the guideline in preparation for this discussion. This can be downloaded from the icare website.
