Addressing Fraud in the NDIS

On the 4th of June 2024, an occupational therapist who is not an Occupational Therapy Australia member, the peak professional body representing the profession, was sentenced to six years in prison for dishonestly obtaining hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to the federal department of social services.

This is a disgraceful example of defrauding taxpayers’ trust and investment in the NDIS, and undermining the relationship of trust that participants and therapists hold.  We want to reassure the community that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated and that the majority of occupational therapists carry out their services in the best interests of their clients, with integrity and professionalism.

Occupational Therapy Australia members are bound not only by their professional code of conduct but by the association’s code of conduct and an adherence to upholding the reputation of the profession.
