Draft Clinical Prioritisation Criteria for SA

The SA Clinical Prioritisation Criteria (CPC) for adult and paediatric services have been released for consultation:

  • Rheumatology (adult and paediatric)
  • Respiratory and Sleep Medicine (paediatric)

The SA CPC is a collaborative effort between multidisciplinary clinicians in secondary/tertiary care and General Practitioners (GPs) to streamline referrals in South Australia's public hospital system. These criteria serve as a guideline for determining which patients should be referred to public specialist outpatient services in South Australia. They use standardised referral criteria and prioritise patients based on clinical urgency. Currently, fourteen specialties are available on the CPC website and six have been embedded into electronic referrals.

The objectives of the CPC include:

  • enhancing access to service-related information for referring clinicians
  • enhancing health literacy
  • ensuring people and ready for care (at their first appointment)
  • equitable access to services
  • improved transparency for referring clinicians and consumers
  • providing alternative management guidelines and resources
  • providing consistent state-wide referral and diagnostic information
  • timely access to care

CPC is inviting all SA Ots to provide feedback on these documents.
