Survey Title: Understanding and addressing suicidality and self-harm after acquired brain injury

University Affiliation: Monash University

Ethics Approval/Reference Number: Monash University HREC Project ID 42790

Principal Researcher: Dr Jai Carmichael

Supervisor(s): N/A this is not a student project

Purpose of study: People with moderate to severe acquired brain injuries (ABI) face a greater risk of suicide than the general population, and self-harm behaviours are common. We want to learn how to better support people with ABI with these experiences, to work toward developing clear strategies and resources for people with ABI, their family members, and clinicians. Individuals with ABI face unique experiences and challenges, including changes to self-identity, reduced financial, social, and cognitive resources, and diverse cognitive-communication abilities. Tailored resources are therefore necessary. This project aims to understand the experiences, needs, and preferences of individuals with ABI, clinicians, and researchers in addressing self-injurious thoughts and behaviours after injury.

Participation Criteria: English-speaking, 18+ years of age, a clinician and/or researcher working with people with ABI. There is no requirement to have any expertise in addressing self-harm and/or suicide; we wish to capture feedback from participants with all levels of expertise.
