Discover your next role with OTA's Jobs Board

Did you know occupational therapy is one of the most difficult vocations to recruit for across Australia? For instance, according to Seek in 2020, an occupational therapist was the second hardest-to-fill role across Australia. OTA’s Jobs Board was launched in collaboration with Community Brands to connect employers with qualified OTs in response to that challenge.

From a job seeker's perspective, this means you have access to a jobs board dedicated to the recruitment of OTs Australia-wide and even overseas with a variety of employers (such as private, public and government). This empowers OT job seekers to efficiently and effectively look for a potential employer of choice. OTA's Jobs Board has more than 500 employers as of October 2023.

It is free for OTs (students, graduates or clinicians) to create an account and post their resume. An additional benefit for job seekers is the anonymous resume bank – a type of “passive” job seeking. Employers have the option of purchasing access to browse the anonymous resumes to search for specific skills and experience.

You upload a copy of your CV, put it through software that removes your personal information, and publish it. When you’re no longer looking for work, simply unpublish your resume. Only validated employers have access to the resume bank. If an employer contacts you about a job they’d like you to consider, you’ll remain anonymous if you ignore or decline it. You’ll be notified that you are sharing your name and email address if you agree to an employer’s interview offer, and that information is then used to set up the interview.

In recruitment terms, OTA’s Jobs Board is referred to as a “niche” jobs board, meaning only qualified OTs access the postings. This gives employers the confidence that the candidates they receive from a posting on the Jobs Board are of a high quality and can do the job at hand. It also means a job seeker’s application made via the Jobs Board is a shortcut to being interviewed. This is very different from the experience employers have using generalist jobs boards. On those sites, employers receive hundreds of applications, with many not qualified to do the job. Quality applicants can get overlooked.

If you’re not getting interview offers, consider using the free resume review service offered when you load your resume. This confidential review by a resume expert will look at the style and format of your resume, review the writing for clarity and errors, and ensure the resume can be read by applicant tracking systems.

OTA’s Jobs Board also offers free general advice about how to get job ready, networking, preparing for interviews, how to work with recruiters and how to improve your resume. For example, are you aware that some large employers do not read candidate submissions and instead use software to determine how appropriate your application is based on the criteria set out in the job posting? This means you must “write for search”, using the keywords used in the job posting in your cover letter and resume to be recognised as a better fit to those criteria. If you’re seeking more assistance, the Jobs Board offers a paid service for cover letter, resume and LinkedIn profile optimisation. You can also use the Jobs Board to set up an alert whenever a job is posted that meets the criteria you select.

Creating a job seeker account is quick and can be done by linking your Facebook, Google or LinkedIn account or simply using an email address. To speak to someone for advice on the services that will most benefit you, call the Jobs Board Community Brands support team on (02) 9559 3030.
