Empowering clients in the community

Wise OT Solutions

Occupational Therapy treatment and Case Management , NSW

At Wise OT Solutions we provide Occupational Therapy treatment and Case Management services for those who have sustained a brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation or burns, to help them on their journey to recovery. We aim to bridge the gap between the injured person and their funding body after carefully assessing and providing a tailored injury management plan and comprehensive case management services. We help our clients set and achieve their community goals as they adjust to their severe injuries. We pride ourselves on a personalised triage process that matches the client to their therapist, our comprehensive report writing and our targeted experience as a team of severe-injury OT's.

We've been operating for 10 years within the insurance industry, with a wonderful team of 8 OT's who feel privileged to work with clients to increase their independence, participation, and inclusion every day.

We haven't let the pandemic stand in the way of providing our essential services. Although we are not saving critically ill patients in hospitals, we are rebuilding the lives of those in the community who need us most right now. We want to share some examples with you to highlight the tragic circumstances some of our clients are living in, covid or no covid.

We've been operating for 10 years within the insurance industry, with a wonderful team of 8 OT's who feel privileged to work with clients to increase their independence, participation, and inclusion every day.

- Jason* is a 45-year-old man with a brachial plexus injury after a horrific car crash. He is working with our OT, Kat, after shoulder surgery. He is beginning to regain movement and sensation in his hand and fingers. While he is making a significant recovery in this critical post-surgical period, his progress would plateau if we ceased therapy, and he may never regain arm function. One of his goals is to hold his newborn son, and we want to help him make that happen!

- Mike* is a 36-year-old man recovering from a brain injury. He is socially disadvantaged with unstable housing, suspected financial abuse, and his Mum (primary carer) is fighting stage 4 cancer. He was utterly overwhelmed and had stopped attending his therapy and cancelled his paid support workers. He trusts our Case Manager, Carly, and agreed to a check-up home visit when things were at their worst. She helped him set up his iPad for Telehealth, book his vaccination, and finalised his financial management meeting with the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) via Telehealth. He is now ready for his care to start again.

- Richard* is a 41-year-old man with a Brain Injury and subsequent mental health issues. He lives alone, has no internet access, is at risk of homelessness, and at his last review, had no food in his fridge. Kat arranged a carer to get groceries and cook some meals. The insurer funded a tablet so he could access Telehealth. Kat set this up, helped him create an email account to support his participation in therapy, and set regular reminders to 'stay home' due to his memory loss. He is now able to keep in contact with his family who cannot visit.

We love supporting our vulnerable clients. It's been a challenging year, but we know that we have played a crucial role in keeping our clients safe at home, supporting their independence and participation in daily life when activities outside the home have not been possible.

Here's to the next 10 years (and beyond!) of community OT and helping people to live their best life!
