This Interest Group (IG) is open to all OTA members working in or with an interest in pain management. This group aims to: 

• Provide evidence-based professional development activities and research
• Connect and network with other OTs 
• Explore the role of occupational therapy in pain management

PRESENTER: Helen Roome 

:

Helen Roome is a South African Occupational therapist with an online practice supporting people living with persistent pain. Her expertise builds on almost 30 years of broad clinical experience, as well as her completion of post-graduate studies in Labour Law, Practical Theology and Interdisciplinary pain management. She is a council member of PainSA (the SA chapter of IASP), the chairperson of the OT Pain Management Group (OTPMG) of SA and a member of the allied health subcommittee of the SA Society for Sleep and Health (SASSH). She has a special interest in Fibromyalgia and co-facilitates a Fibromyalgia support group with a person living with the condition. She has published a book to support people in their self-management of persistent pain called “Your Pain Playbook: effective daily strategies for life beyond pain.” available on Amazon or via helenroome.co.za. Helen is a curious life-long-learner and also really tries to live out what she teaches - so, you’ll find her on a hiking trail or in the garden on weekends and behind an easel in the holidays!
