Embedding Cultural Safety: Trauma-Informed Leadership and Practice
This course focuses on embedding cultural capability into leadership, decision-making, and everyday professional practice through a trauma-informed approach, fostering trust, challenging systemic barriers, and leading sustainable organisational change that reflects reconciliation in action.
Program Overview
Embedding Cultural Safety: Trauma-Informed Leadership and Practice is an advanced learning experience developed by the Centre for Cultural Competence Australia (CCCA), designed to support participants to move beyond awareness and practical skills toward making cultural capability an integral part of who they are and how they work.
Aligned with the BEING domain of the Commonwealth Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Capability Framework, this course focuses on embedding cultural values, safety, accountability, and reflective practice as an ongoing professional and organisational commitment.
Building on the cultural knowledge gained through Understanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures (Part 1) and the applied skills developed in Delivering Stronger Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Outcomes (Part 2), the course explores how cultural safety and trauma-informed approaches can be integrated into leadership, decision-making, workplace culture, and service delivery.
Participants examine leadership integrity, systemic barriers, and the impacts of intergenerational trauma, while developing strategies to create environments where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples feel respected, included, and culturally safe. By the end of the course, learners are equipped to lead with empathy, foster trust, and drive sustainable change that reflects reconciliation in action.
