Management of eating disorders for people with higher weight: clinical practice guideline

About Management of eating disorders for people with higher weight: clinical practice guideline and the online launch

Despite the high prevalence of people experiencing eating disorders and high weight, eating disorders are consistently under-recognised and under-treated in this population. People who are of higher weight and experiencing an eating disorder often experience delayed identification of the eating disorder, misdiagnoses in assessment, subsequent inappropriate and inadequate treatment and widespread stigma. Previously, there has been little to guide clinicians on the management of eating disorders for people with higher weight. This Guideline addresses this important gap.

The Management of eating disorders for people with higher weight: clinical practice guideline has been developed by NEDC after extensive review and consultation throughout 2020-22. The Guideline synthesises the current best practice approaches to management of eating disorders for people with higher weight and has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Eating Disorders. To celebrate this achievement and to help disseminate this important document, we extend a warm invitation to you to the virtual launch.

In the one-hour live stream launch, Guideline Development Group members Jo Farmer and Julia Quin will discuss their lived experience of eating disorders and higher weight and their hopes for the Guideline. Professor Phillipa Hay and Dr Angelique Ralph will outline the rationale for and methodology of the Guideline, highlight key messages and recommendations and describe how to access the document and accompanying resources. There will be a live Q&A session moderated by Dr Sarah Trobe.

The Guideline is intended for all health professionals, and we encourage health professionals across varied disciplines and settings of practice to read and utilise the guideline. For more information on the guideline, click here.
