TRANS VITALITY: TRANS-AFFIRMING PRACTICE COURSE 

SESSION OVERVIEW

OTA are pleased to partner with ACON, Australia’s largest health organisation specialising in community health, inclusion and HIV responses for people of diverse sexualities and genders (LGBTQ+ people) to bring you this course.

Enrol in this course to increase your knowledge, skills and confidence when working with trans people – both binary and non-binary.  

Trans and gender diverse people come from all cultures and walks of life. Due to their unique lived experience, a specialised approach to care is needed to deliver respectful and effective support.  

This on-demand eLearning course is designed to broaden your understanding of trans people and communities. This leads to improved capacity to be trans-affirming in your work, services, and programs.   

The eLearning course has 4 interactive modules:  

  1. Being trans in Australia  

  1. Trans people and healthcare: Unique needs  

  1. Unpacking assumptions and bias  

  1. Introduction to Trans-Affirming Practice  

By attending this course, you will be able to:  

  1. Define LGBTQ+ and differentiate between gender and sexuality  

  1. Describe some of the common shared experiences of the trans community  

  1. Demonstrate in-depth awareness of the physical, mental and social health disparities facing trans and gender diverse people  

  1. Identify areas for improvement within your role and workplace and apply trans-affirming practice into day-to-day work activities  

  1. Implement inclusive and affirming language to build rapport with trans and gender diverse clients  

This Trans Vitality course has been generously enabled by NSW Health. It was developed by subject matter experts in ACON’s Pride Training and Trans Health Equity teams, and co-designed with medical service providers and trans community members. The training includes personal stories and experiences from community members through video testimonials and animations.  

This session is suitable for: 

This short course is suitable for occupational therapists at all career stages. 

CPD HOURS: 

It is expected that it will take approximately 3 hours to complete this short course. 

A certificate will be issued on completion of the course.
