ACT and QLD Election Outcomes

Following the ACT election on 19 October 2024, ACT Labor won its seventh term, with Rachel Stephen-Smith MLA committing to support for occupational therapists. Her pledge includes continued scholarships and placement grants for OT students, expanded career pathways, and increased opportunities for clinical supervision, research, and advanced practice. ACT Labor is also focused on competitive pay and development opportunities to aid recruitment and retention and plans to streamline school placements for OT students in collaboration with stakeholders. Early intervention for children remains a priority, with plans to expand child development services in schools.

In Queensland, the Liberal National Party (LNP) won the 26 October election, ending Labor’s nine-year tenure. OTA looks forward to working constructively with LNP representatives to advocate for enhanced support for OTs to meet the needs of Queensland communities.
