Program Overview
This module will provide you with new knowledge and skills in mental health assessment and planning from a uniquely occupational therapy perspective. This module is aligned with the Occupational Therapy Board Registration Standards, the National Mental Health Practice Standards, and the OT Australia Mental Health Capability Framework (Foundation Level).
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
After completing this module you will be able to:
- Clearly communicate the purpose of occupational therapy assessment to people experiencing mental health conditions, their family and supports, colleagues and other stakeholders.
- Effectively apply a range of occupational therapy assessments, tools and information gathering techniques with a person to gather comprehensive, person-centred and holistic data.
- Utilise occupational therapy assessment data to develop an occupational formulation, identify occupational performance issues and inform collaborative goal setting with a person.
- Collaboratively plan effective and relevant occupational therapy interventions founded on the assessment process.
- Identify opportunities for continuous professional development to enable sustained development of occupational therapy assessment skills.

Dr. Danielle Hitch
Danielle is an occupational therapist, health economist and healthcare researcher. She has 24 years clinical experience with people experiencing a range of disabilities, however most of her career has been focused on mental health occupational therapy. She began her career in vocational rehabilitation, before moving to the United Kingdom (UK) to work in the National Health Service. During her time in the UK, Danielle worked across inpatient, rehabilitation, community and forensic mental health services and acquired comprehensive knowledge of multiple areas of practice. Upon returning to Australia, she founded a private practice focused on mental health occupational therapy (including contracts with headspace and Carers Victoria) and worked as a Triage / CATT clinician. Danielle has significant experience in delivery high quality professional education across a range of mediums.
