HOW TO CHOOSE THE MOST SUITABLE ASSESSMENT AND OUTCOME MEASURES IN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY PRACTICE (Community Living Older Adults – Home Safety)
SESSION OVERVIEW
Join us for this 2 -part interactive online workshop series presented by Dr Bess Fowler that will provide you with the tools to choose the most suitable assessment and outcome measure for your clinical practice. The series will include a project that you will complete in your own time between workshops to support consolidation of your learning from the first workshop.
Workshop 1
The first workshop will cover the theory and practice of critically appraising health measures, enabling participants to learn the skills necessary for choosing the most suitable high-quality measures for occupational therapy practice. The Outcome Measures Rating Form (OMRF), devised by the renown occupational therapist Professor Mary Law and colleagues, will provide a template to systematically appraise occupational therapy measures. The Home Falls and Accidents Screening Tool (HOME FAST) will be used as an example.
Project
Following workshop 1, registrants will select an occupational therapy measure relevant to their clinical practice. The chosen measure will then be critically appraised by the participant over the 5 weeks between Sessions 1 and 2. It anticipated that this project will require 1 hour per week to complete. The presenter, Dr Bess Fowler will provide individual professional support, via email, during the project to those registrants who would like to benefit from this support.
Workshop 2
The second workshop will consist of registrants presenting their critical appraisal of their chosen measure using the OMRF (approx. 10 mins). The presenter and other members of the group will have the opportunity to engage and ask questions.
